In this study, the abrasion performance of the polyvinyl chloride-wood flour the tribological performance of the composites reinforced with nanosilica, nanoclay, nanographene, and carbon nanotubes has been investigated. Moreover, the mechanical strength and hardness of the specimens containing nanoparticles with the control samples were compared. To meet this objective, wood flour was mixed with polyvinyl chloride at a weight ratio of 50% by melt compounding. Nanoparticles were used in the various loading levels of 1, 2, 3 and 5% (by weight). Tribological test was performed on the samples according to the pin on disk method, and their wear resistance and friction coefficient were measured. The morphological of the specimens were characterized using FE-SEM to study the dispersion of nanoparticles in the composites. The results indicated that the presence of nanoparticles in the polymer matrix improves the tribological behavior of the composite by reducing the wear rate and increasing its friction coefficient. Furthermore, the tribological properties of the samples decreased with the inclusion of high levels of nanoparticles (5% by weight). The lowest weight loss was determined for the specimens containing nanosilica, nanographene, carbon nanotube, and nanoclay followed by 0.11, 0.14, 0.19, and 0.22 gr at 3 wt% loading level, respectively. The amount of weight loss in the control samples was reported to be 0.33 gr. The findings from the evaluation of hardness and mechanical strength (flexural strength, flexural modulus, tensile strength, and tensile modulus) demonstrated that the highest values of these properties were obtained in the composites containing 3% nanosilica.
